Hello there

If you have stumbled across my website you will have guessed my name is Michelle Siciliano. I have been involved in an artistic practice ever since I can remember but that’s a whole other story.

I’ve had the idea for a website for a long time now and when I first started this website I was living in Perth (you will see evidence of this throughout my website). A little while ago I decided I needed more space and a reliable income to support my art practice and like a lot of people here in the West, I went into the empty wilds to find employment. It was 23 April 2007 when I took up a position as an English/ Art teacher in a region of Western Australia known as the Midwest. The town is located about six hours drive by car north northeast of Perth. The main role of the town is as a hub for pastoral, mining and road trains on their way to somewhere else further north.

As a previously lifelong resident of Perth Western Australia – known as the most isolated city in the world and having quite a transient population, especially with a ‘resources boom’ going on – I have a fairly good idea who has seen my work in this town. At this point it probably amounts to about 14 people. Anyone else who may have seen my work is long gone having moved on to greener pastures while others are probably thinking about doing the same. There has been the odd moment when there has been a flicker of recognition from a fellow artist on a similar pathway but this fleeting connection usually dissolves in a town without a critical mass of people to sustain oblique connections.

This website is essentially about showing the body of work I have created since 1992 - and maybe prior (in reference to that other story) – in this online form. Anyone familiar with my work or those who have never heard of me before can access this electronic archive documenting an artistic practice. Hopefully this will kindle contact from all sorts of people – artists exploring similar ideas or approaches – engaging in a discussion about an art life wherever it might be. So please peruse the site and check out my blog under live-in art studio but be warned the site is a work-in-progress and will probably be so for sometime. So please be patient while I scan those slides and track down those artist statements from the early days. If you wish you may sign up as a subscriber and receive notification when I have completed a new posting.

Then, if you wish, you can let me know what you think.
